I started doing yoga at 25. A type-A super over achiever I was, and was about 17 years overdue for stress relief and a balancing practice. Six years later, I can state that yoga and my commitment to balance and consciousness have been life changing, and I am spreading the good word of grace and serenity.
As my career has progressed, I find myself more and more drawn to work that addresses things close to my heart. When Jerry Scheer, a Charleston philanthropist, approached Grace Delivers about assisting him with the branding and development of Yoga Kidz, a yoga in schools program supported by his TBonz Foundation, we were sold.
Providing children the opportunity to exercise and be calm, but also alert, is an essential piece to learning within the classroom environment. If kids are stressed, they’re not using the entire brain to learn. When the nervous system is slowed down, children can be more calm and confident, be more engaged, and become better learners. Yoga has been shown to benefit children with hyperactivity and attention problems by giving them a positive outlet and allowance for movement. A crucial healthy option to consider, before resorting to the prescription drugs that are being dispensed at alarming rates to treat over-diagnosed children.
